Criterion Wine
Wine TastingsWe organize many different kinds of tastings and wine tasting events and can cater from 10 – 100 people. We can also devise a tailor made format to suit your exact requirements. Prices range from £20 to £50+ per head, and depend on the number of people attending and quality of wines used. They include all of the wines provided for the tasting, the prizes (where applicable), and our services, but NOT room hire, glasses, water, spittoons or food. Please ask us about any of these ‘extras', and about suggested venues. Our prices are based on generous measures of 10-12 tasting portions per bottle, and if you require further wine for post-tasting consumption, we can supply this at normal retail prices.
COMPETITIVE
Cost guide per head £20-£30
How good is your sensory memory? Can you tell a Chardonnay from a Chenin
Blanc or a Merlot from a Mourvedre? This is your chance to put your taste
buds to the test, and to prove your powers of identification. Always huge
fun. These are great for team building with prizes for every member of
the winning team! A glass of fizz to get everyone ready, an introduction
to how to taste wine, and then in teams a choice of:-
- The Wine Challenge - Guess the grape, country, vintage and price from a multiple choice format. Our most popular tasting.
- Old vs. New World – is it from a classic region of Europe or from the upstart New World ?
- Quaffer or Quality? – Can you tell if it's an everyday glugger or a fine wine to savour?
- Wine Options – a series of increasingly specific questions about a
wine. You will only stay in the game as long as you get each one right!
TUTORED
Cost guide per head £20-£50+
These tastings are more educational and give you the chance to learn in depth about a particular country or wine region. They will suit those who already know a bit but want to find out more. If you really want to get closer to the vineyards, then why not let us arrange a tutored tasting which will bring them alive. It's the next best thing to actually being there!
This is just a small selection to tempt your palate, but we can cover most wine areas of the world.
- Chase the Grape - how does a particular grape variety vary when grown in different climates? What is the significance of ‘terroir'? What effect do different winemaking philosophies have on the final product?
- Tour de France – a fascinating insight into what the different regions of (arguably) the world's greatest fine wine producer, have to offer.
- Bordeaux - the home of some of the most famous names in the world and a favourite of wine lovers for centuries. The area includes St. Emilion, The Medoc and Graves, as well as the luscious dessert wines of Sauternes.
- Champagne and Sparkling Wine – discover the secret of the bubble. Sheer luxury!
- Italy – La Dolce Vita. The world’s 2nd largest wine producer with a huge range of grape varieties and styles.
- New Zealand – a relative youngster in world terms, but already wowing drinkers with their vibrant sauvignons and pinot noirs.
